Defensive tackle Desmond Bryant has never started more than 10 games in a season, but he still struck it rich Tuesday on the first day of NFL free agency.
Bryant and the Cleveland Browns agreed to terms on a five-year, $34 million deal, according to multiple media reports. He is guaranteed $15 million, according to the NFL Network.
An undrafted free agent who signed out of Harvard in 2009, Bryant played in 63 of 64 games for the Oakland Raiders in four seasons. He started 10 games in 2011 and eight in 2012. Last year, he finished with 36 tackles, four sacks and one forced fumble.
Bryant, 27, figures to fit nicely in the Browns’ 3-4 defense scheme under first-year coordinator Ray Horton. He also brings a bit of baggage, as he was arrested last month in Miami-Dade County, Florida, on suspicion of criminal mischief.
Earlier Tuesday, Cleveland agreed to give former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Paul Kruger a five-year, $40 million deal.
