Right-handed pitcher Chris Young is preparing to opt out of his minor league contract with the Washington Nationals, CSNWashington.com reported Monday.

Once the paper work is submitted, the Nationals have 24 hours to add him to the roster or release him to free agency.

Young allowed one unearned run in a start against the Houston Astros on Monday and has a 2.25 ERA in 16 innings this spring.

Young, 33, was 4-9 with a 4.15 ERA for the Mets last season.
