The New York Yankees avoided arbitration with four players, including outfielder Brett Gardner and three pitchers, by signing them to one-year contracts, the New York Post reported Friday.
Besides Gardner, the Yankees signed right-handers Shawn Kelley, Ivan Nova and David Robertson.
Gardner, 30, will earn $5.6 million, according to the report. He hit .273 with eight home runs and 52 RBIs in 145 games last season and figures to be a starting outfielder for the Yankees next season.
Robertson, 28, will get $5.215 million, according to the Post report. He is expected to succeed Mariano Rivera as the team’s closer. Robertson was 5-1 with a 2.04 ERA and three saves in 70 relief appearances in 2013.
Kelley, 27, will receive $1.765 million after going 4-2 with a 4.39 ERA in 57 relief appearances last season.
Nova, 27, will get $3.3 million. He went 9-6 with a 3.10 ERA in 23 games, including 20 starts, last season for the Yankees.
