The Seattle Seahawks plan to release wide receiver Sidney Rice, ESPN reported Friday.
Rice signed a five-year, $41 million contract with the Seahawks in 2011 and is due $17.5 million in base salary over the next two seasons.
However, he missed the final eight games of the regular season and the playoffs after he tore an ACL against the St. Louis Rams on Oct. 28.
Rice struggled with injuries two of his three seasons with Seattle. In 2011, he played just nine games because of a concussion and a shoulder injury. He did play all 16 games of the 2012 season and made 50 catches for 748 yards with seven touchdowns.
The Seahawks’ receiving corps includes Doug Baldwin, Jermaine Kearse and Golden Tate, who is expected to be a free agent in March.
