The New Orleans Saints may be interested in free-agent pass rusher Dwight Freeney, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The Saints want to improve their league-worst defense, and missed out on Elvis Dumervil, who agreed to terms with the Baltimore Ravens. Freeney, an 11-year veteran, was released last month by the Indianapolis Colts.
Money will likely be a factor. The Saints are also pursuing free-agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who is reportedly choosing between New Orleans and the Super Bowl runner-up San Francisco 49ers. The Saints could miss out on Freeney while waiting for Asomugha’s decision.
Freeney has also been mentioned as a possibility in Denver, where the Broncos need to replace Dumervil, and where Freeney would be reunited with quarterback Peyton Manning.
