Shortstop Hanley Ramirez rejected the $15.3 million qualifying offer from the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Ramirez’s action was expected and makes him a free agent. He can still re-sign with the Dodgers, but if he signs with another team, the Dodgers will receive a draft pick in compensation and the club with which he signs will lose a draft pick.
Ramirez, 31, seems to be willing to play a position other than shortstop, and if that’s true it might increase his value on the free-agent market.
He hit .283 with 13 homers and 14 stolen bases while playing 128 games for the Dodgers in 2014.
