Texas’ leading tackler and arguably its best defensive player, Jordan Hicks, will miss the rest of the season with an Achilles injury suffered in Saturday’s 31-21 win over Kansas State, multiple outlets reported on Sunday.

The Ohio native leads the beleaguered Longhorns defense with 41 tackles. He recorded 2 1/2 tackles for loss against Kansas State before being carted off the field in the second half on Saturday.

AS of Sunday afternoon, the school had yet to release an official statement concerning the junior’s condition.

Injuries have slowed the former five-star recruit’s collegiate career. Hicks missed 10 games last season after suffering a hip-flexor injury in the third game of the season. Earlier in his career, he fractured his foot, which forced him to miss spring practice.
