Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham is leaving the school to take the same the job at Louisville, ESPN reported Sunday, citing a source.
Grantham reportedly gets a five-year guaranteed contract worth $1 million per year, according to the report.
He was the Bulldogs’ defensive coordinator for four years.
When Grantham came to Georgia, he installed a 3-4 alignment that led to an increase in sacks and takeaways. In 2011, Georgia ranked fifth in the nation in total defense.
Grantham previously coached in the NFL as an assistant with the Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts. He also coached in college at Michigan State and Virginia Tech. He has worked with head coaches Frank Beamer, Bud Foster, Nick Saban, Romeo Crennel, Dom Capers and Wade Phillips during his career.
Louisville hired Bobby Petrino as its new coach last week. After Petrino was hired, ESPN reported that Kevin Steele, Alabama’s director of player personnel, was offered the Cardinals’ defensive coordinator job, but he reportedly turned it down.
Former UAB coach Garrick McGee will be the Cardinals’ offensive coordinator. He held the same position when Petrino coached Arkansas.
