The Giants are interested in re-signing right-handed starter Jake Peavy, the Boston Globe reported.
According to the report, Peavy, 33, could possibly command a three-year free-agent deal. After struggling with the Boston Red Sox, Peavy pitched like an ace down the stretch for the Giants since reuniting with manager Bruce Bochy.
Peavy also pitched for Bochy when the two were with the San Diego Padres.
Since being traded to San Francisco on July 26, Peavy went 6-4 with a 2.17 ERA and 1.04 WHIP over 78 2/3 innings. The Giants gave up pitching prospects Edwin Escobar and Heath Hembree to acquire Peavy.
Overall, Peavy was 7-13 with a 3.73 ERA in 32 starts.
Peavy allowed no runs and two hits in 5 2/3 innings in Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Washington Nationals. He is starting Game 2 of the NL Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday night with the Giants leading it 1-0.
