The Arizona Diamondbacks reached agreement with first baseman Paul Goldschmidt on a five-year, $32 million contract extension with a club option for 2019, Fox Sports reported Friday.
The Diamondbacks decided to lock up Goldschmidt, who wasn’t eligible for arbitration until 2014, for the long term after a strong first full season in the big leagues in 2012.
The 25-year-old Goldschmidt batted .286 with 20 home runs, 82 RBI and 18 stolen bases in 2012. He played in 48 games for Arizona in 2011 and hit .250 with eight homers and 26 RBI.
