Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis is out of the season after tearing his Achilles tendon Sunday in a loss to the New York Giants.
Head coach Mike Shanahan confirmed the injury in his postgame press conference.
Davis left the game and was carted off the field in the first quarter. He’s the Redskins’ leading receiver with 24 receptions for 325 yards (13.5-yard average).
Logan Paulsen, a third-year pro from UCLA, replaced Davis Sunday and caught four passes for 76 yards to lead Redskins’ receivers.
Washington released longtime starter Chris Cooley in September and discussed possibly bringing him back this season. Cooley could get a call with the Redskins’ questionable depth at the position.
