Free safety Ryan Clark has agreed to a one-year deal with the Washington Redskins, according to multiple reports.
The long-time Pittsburgh Steeler visited the Seattle Seahawks last week and received interest from multiple teams on the free agent market before landing in Washington. The 34-year-old has played in one Pro Bowl over his 12-year career, and started all 16 games in 2013.
Clark has spent the past eight seasons with the Steelers, and has 827 career tackles, 15 interceptions, five forced fumbles and 3.5 sacks. He is considered a smart player who calls out the plays and a big hitter, but he became more of a liability for the Steelers last season and the team did not attempt to re-sign him. He turns 35 in October.
Upgrading the safety position has been a point of emphasis for the Redskins, who received uneven play from Brandon Meriweather and Reed Doughty last season. Meriweather signed a one-year, $1 million deal, but Doughty remains unsigned.
