The NFL is expected to reinstate long-suspended Washington Redskins safety Tanard Jackson on Tuesday, according to CBSSports.com.
Jackson last played an NFL game in 2011. He signed with the Redskins before the 2012 season and was suspended indefinitely by the NFL that August for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Jackson in the fourth round in 2007. He started 44 games in three years with the Buccaneers. He was suspended four games in 2009.
Jackson was then suspended indefinitely in September 2010 for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy and was reinstated in October 2011. He received a contract extension from the Bucs after returning. He played 10 games and had three interceptions that season.
In April 2012, the Bucs released Jackson after he failed a physical. The team said at the time the decision had nothing to do with “any new issues related” with his previous suspensions.
Jackson has not played a regular-season game since signing with the Redskins in 2012.
