The NFL suspended Washington Redskins linebacker Junior Galette two games on Monday for his role in a domestic violence incident in January.

Galette, who is currently on season-ending injured reserve after suffering a torn Achilles in August, will begin serving his suspension immediately and lose two game checks for violating the NFL’s personal-conduct policy.

Galette, 27, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor simple battery/domestic violence in January after a domestic incident at his home in Kenner, La., but the charges were dropped on Feb. 19.

The accuser later filed a civil suit against Galette, alleging he sexually abused her for years. But that suit was dismissed in August after the 22-year-old woman failed to pursue the case.

The New Orleans Saints released Galette on July 27 — less than a year after they signed him to a four-year extension worth up to $41 million — following the release of a 2013 video that appears to show a physical altercation on a beach between Galette and a woman that involves a belt. He had about $18 million in guaranteed money remaining on his contract with the Saints.

Galette signed a one-year contract with the Redskins on July 31 for the veteran’s minimum.

Galette recorded 22 sacks the past two seasons with the Saints — a career-high 12 in 2013 and 10 last season. In five seasons with the Saints, he totaled 31.5 sacks and 128 tackles in 64 games.
