As a reward for a Cy Young Award season, Tampa Bay Rays left-hander David Price will see his salary more than double.
Price and the Rays agreed to terms Tuesday on a one-year contract to avoid arbitration, according to ESPN.com and the Tampa Bay Times. The Times reported that Price will be paid just one $10 million, far exceeding the $4.35 million he made last year.
Price, 27, captured AL Cy Young honors after going 20-5 with a 2.56 ERA in 31 starts. He made his third consecutive AL All-Star team, and he led the league in wins, ERA and winning percentage.
The Rays have Price under control for three more seasons before he’d be eligible for free agency.
Tampa Bay still has four other players eligible for arbitration this winter: outfielders Sam Fuld and Matt Joyce, right-hander Jeff Niemann and infielder Ryan Roberts.
