The Tampa Bay Rays placed first baseman James Loney on the disabled list Wednesday and called up Allan Dykstra.

Dykstra was set to make his major-league debut Wednesday, starting at first base against the Baltimore Orioles.

Loney did not play in Tampa Bay’s 6-5 loss Tuesday because of tightness in his right side.

Dykstra, a former first-round pick of the San Diego Padres, signed a minor-league deal with the Rays in November.

He has hit .257 in seven minor-league seasons.
