Fullback Vonta Leach, who was cut by the Baltimore Ravens on June 11, is re-signing with the Ravens, the team announced Monday.
Leach joined the Ravens in 2011, but was waived during this offseason after deciding not to take a pay cut.
He sought a better offer as a free agent, and, despite reports of interest from other teams, including the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants, the demand for a blocking back was not strong.
Leach is a three-time first-team All-Pro selection, but he is 31 years old.
It may be noteworthy that the signing comes shortly after the Ravens lost tight end Dennis Pitta to an injury.
In Pitta’s absence, Leach provides additional pass-protection help for quarterback Joe Flacco, and may help the Ravens’ running game now that a prime receiving target is gone.
