Coach John Harbaugh said Tuesday the Baltimore Ravens are narrowing their search for the offensive coordinator position vacated when Jim Caldwell was named head coach of the Detroit Lions last week.
Scott Linehan, former offensive coordinator of the Lions, Pittsburgh Steelers running backs coach Kirby Smart, former Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and current Ravens wide receivers coach Jim Hostler were interviewed.
Harbaugh said he is also interviewing candidates for the position of quarterbacks coach.
The search included some college coaches.
Hostler has previous experience as an NFL offensive coordinator — one season, 2007, with the San Francisco 49ers — and is in tune with Harbaugh’s philosophy for a physical and aggressive run-based offense. He was fired after one season in San Francisco and openly criticized by players, including running back Frank Gore, for his play-calling.
