Texas Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus agreed to an eight-year, $120 million contract extension, CBS Sports reported Monday.
Including the remaining two years on his current deal, Andrus is guaranteed more than $131 million over the next 10 years.
The contract is expected to be announced by the Rangers this week.
The extension could include an opt-out clause, according to MLB.com.
Andrus, 24, is starting the second year of a three-year, $14.4 million deal. He will make $4.8 million this year and $6.475 million in 2014.
Through his first four major league seasons, Andrus has seen his batting average and on-base percentage rise each year. He batted .286 with a .349 OBP and a .378 slugging percentage with three home runs, 62 RBI and 21 stolen bases last year. He earned his second All-Star Game appearance.
Andrus went 0-for-4 Sunday in the Rangers’ 8-2, season-opening loss to the Houston Astros.
