Texas Rangers right-hander Lisalverto Bonilla needs Tommy John surgery and the injury bug continues to bit the team’s starting rotation.
Bonilla started the season on the 15-day disabled list and received an injection for discomfort in his elbow.
Already without top two starters Yu Darvish (Tommy John surgery) and left-hander Derek Holland (shoulder), the Rangers made Bonilla the seventh player from their Opening Day 40-man roster to be placed on 60-day DL. Left-hander Matt Harrison (spinal fusion surgery) and Martin Perez (elbow) are the other starters on the long-term disabled list.
The Rangers did not announce a starter for Wednesday’s game, citing their unsettled bullpen.
Former Astros starter Wandy Rodriguez could be called up from Triple-A is Anthony Bass, who threw 63 pitches in the home opener, isn’t available.
