The Texas Rangers released veteran left-hander Joe Beimel on Monday.
Signed earlier this month, the 37-year-old would have been paid $1.5 million if he had made the Opening Day roster, but he gave up 14 runs (11 earned) on 13 hits (three homers) and two walks over three innings in Cactus League play.
Beimel had a 2.20 ERA over 45 innings with the Seattle Mariners last season.
