Texas Rangers pitcher Derek Holland had arthroscopic knee surgery on Friday and will be sidelined until midseason, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reported Friday.
Holland injured his knee in a fall at his home, according to the report.
Holland, 27, went 10-9 with a 3.42 earned-run average in 33 starts for the Rangers in 2013.
He was a major part of Texas’ plans in 2014, and his absence at the start of the season is major blow.
Unless the Rangers make a move to acquire a starter while Holland is sidelined, Robbie Ross is among the contenders to take Holland’s spot in the rotation.
