Outfielder Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers, out because of a strained left hamstring, could begin a rehab assignment by the middle of next week, the Dallas Morning News reported.
Hamilton, whose return to the Rangers lasted only seven games before he was injured on June 1, is scheduled to work out with the Rangers’ Double-A affiliate in Frisco, Texas, on Sunday before taking Monday off.
If all goes well, he would work out and take batting practice with the Rangers on Tuesday before being re-evaluated. The hope is that he can return to the Rangers at the beginning of July.
Hamilton was 6-for-22 (.273) with two home runs, two doubles and five RBIs before being injured.
