Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre left Wednesday’s game against the Cleveland Indians in the fifth inning because of a left shoulder strain.
It is not believed to be serious, but the Rangers said Beltre will have a precautionary MRI to determine the extent of the injury.
Beltre injured the shoulder when he dove to his left to field a ground ball hit by Russ Canzler. Beltre threw to first to get the out.
He remained in the game and walked in his next at-bat.
Manager Ron Washington and head athletic trainer Jamie Reed came out to check on Beltre at that point, but again he stayed in the game.
After the top of the fourth inning, Washington was shown on television talking with Beltre in the dugout, according to ESPNDallas.com.
Mike Olt came into the game to play third base when the Rangers took the field.
Beltre hit his 32nd home run in Wednesday’s game. He is .318 with 92 RBIs.
