St. Louis Rams running back Isaiah Pead will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL.
Coach Jeff Fisher said Pead will need season-ending surgery. He was assisted off the field and carted to the locker room after he fell untouched on a kickoff return during Saturday’s exhibition game against the Green Bay Packers.
“He worked very, very hard to get in position to where he was a very productive special teamer for us, and we had high hopes for him doing some things out of the backfield for us as well,” Fisher said. “He’ll go into surgery in the next 10 days to two weeks, which is typical for these injuries.”
Pead made a 33-yard return down the sideline when he hit the ground. The non-contact injury appeared to occur when he planted on his left foot.
Pead plays behind fellow running backs Zac Stacy, Tre Mason and Benny Cunningham but was expected to make the team as a special teamer.
In two seasons, Pead has 17 rushes for 75 yards, 14 catches and 15 kick returns.
