The Oakland Raiders will place cornerback D.J. Hayden on the reserve/physically unable to perform list Tuesday, according to reports.
Hayden underwent foot surgery in July after suffering a stress fracture and will sit out at least the first six games of the regular season.
Selected No. 12 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft, Hayden has battled injury problems since joining the Raiders. He was limited to eight games and two starts as a rookie, finishing the season with 26 tackles and one interception.
Hayden sat out the offseason while recovering from heart surgery to remove scar tissue from an earlier procedure to repair a torn heart value. He also was slowed by a groin problem.
The Raiders decided to place Hayden on the PUP list to ensure that he returns to full health before he attempts to get back on the field.
“He looks a lot better, but that’s one of those things that you just kind of visit with the trainers every day and find out how he did each particular day,” Raiders coach Dennis Allen said. “He’s making progress.”
