Jake Hubenak became the best option for Texas A&M at quarterback this week, when he happened to become the only option for the Aggies in the Music City Bowl.
Hubenak, a junior college transfer, unwittingly jumped into the starting spot by default with the top two quarterbacks on the roster filed transfer paperwork six days apart.
Kyler Murray followed Kyle Allen to the transfer trail officially on Thursday.
“To all my family, friends and fans out there, I thank you for your love and continued support,” Murray said on Twitter. “I will forever be grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given and relationships I’ve made at Texas A&M. I wish nothing but the best to all my guys in that locker room.”
Allen announced his decision to transfer six days earlier.
When Murray wasn’t at practice for the start of bowl preparation and the Dec. 30 Music City Bowl matchup with Louisville, coach Kevin Sumlin said he wasn’t feeling well. That turned out to be only a half-truth. Murray wasn’t feeling well about his spot with the Aggies.
Hubenak transferred from Blinn Junior College. This season, he had 92 yards passing and one touchdown with the Aggies.
At Blinn, Hubenak racked up 4,052 yards with 47 touchdowns and nine interceptions in eight games.
