Pitcher Padilla heads to Japan with one-year deal

Veteran right-hander Vincente Padilla has reached an agreement with the Softbank Hawks in Japan on a one-year, $3.25 million contract, MLB.com reported Wednesday.

Padilla, 35, pitched for the Boston Red Sox last season as a reliever. He appeared in 56 games spanning 50 innings and posted a 4-1 record and a 4.50 ERA with one save.

During a 14-year career in the major leagues, Padilla had a 108-91 record with a 4.32 ERA for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Dodgers and Red Sox.
