Pistons sign draft picks Caldwell-Pope, Mitchell


The Detroit Pistons announced Friday that they signed draft picks Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Tony Mitchell to contracts.

Caldwell-Pope, a guard, was taken with the No. 8 pick in the June draft. He averaged 13.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.8 steals in 28.6 minutes over five Summer League games in Orlando. He led the SEC with 18.5 points last season at Georgia. He also averaged 7.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.0 steals in 32 games last season as a sophomore.

Mitchell, a forward, was drafted in the second round (No. 37 overall). He averaged 7.8 points and 6.8 rebounds in 25.4 minutes over five Summer League games. In his collegiate career at North Texas, Mitchell averaged 13.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.9 blocks in 55 games. He led the Sun Belt Conference with 2.7 blocks per game last season.
