The Pittsburgh signed left-hander Clayton Richard to a minor league contract with an invitation to the major league camp.

Richard is trying to resurrect his career after shoulder problems sidelined him for most of the past two seasons.

The 31-year-old posted a 46-47 career record with the Chicago White Sox and San Diego Padres. In 2013, he had a 2-5 record with a 7.01 ERA in 12 games with the Padres before he was injured.

Richard returned to pitch in the minor leagues for the Padres in 2014 and had a 1-2 record with a 5.91 ERA with Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Reno.
