Pierzynski meets with Rangers

ARLINGTON — The Rangers met with free agent A.J. Pierzynski and his representatives Tuesday, hoping to lure the 35-year-old catcher to Arlington to boost the offense.

The left-handed-hitting Pierzynski enjoyed the best season of his career last season with the Chicago White Sox, hitting .278 with 27 home runs while driving in 77 runs. However, he threw out just 19 of 76 (20 percent) attempted basestealers.

Pierzynski, the starting catcher on the White Sox’s 2005 World Series championship team, would add power from the left side after the Rangers lost free agent Josh Hamilton to the Los Angeles Angels during the offseason.
