The Boston Red Sox are interviewing New York Yankees bench coach Tony Pena for their managerial job Monday, ESPN Boston reported.
Pena is the second candidate to interview since the team fired Bobby Valentine after one season. Los Angeles Dodgers third-base coach Tim Wallach interviewed in Boston on Friday.
San Diego Padres special assistant Brad Ausmus and Baltimore Orioles third-base coach DeMarlo Hale are also scheduled to be interviewed this week, according to WEEI.com.
Pena, 55, played 18 seasons in the major leagues as a catcher for four teams, including the Boston Red Sox. He managed the Kansas City Royals from 2002-05. He was named AL Manager of the Year in 2003. He resigned during the 2005 season after the Royals got off to an 8-25 start.
The Yankees, who are down two games to the Detroit Tigers in the American League Championship Series, have the day off.
