Right-hander Jake Peavy was scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday at Cleveland as the Chicago White Sox continued negotiations that could lead to dealing Peavy before Wednesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline.

Peavy is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in one start against the Indians this season. In 11 career starts vs. the Indians, Peavy is 5-3 with a 3.93 ERA.

ESPN reported Monday that the White Sox were planning to keep Peavy and build around him. The decision to not start Peavy, thereby dodging risk of injury, signals that first-year general manager Rick Hahn is at least open to offers.

Peavy, 32, has a 4.28 ERA in 13 starts. He is owed $14.5 million for 2014 and has a vesting option for 2015.

Having been traded at the deadline once before — from San Diego to Chicago — Peavy said this time of year is “crazy and hectic” and will be glad when the calendar turns to August.

“‘I’ll be happy when Wednesday is here and there’s no more speculation,” Peavy said on Monday. “I know there’s a good chance I could possibly start and there’s a good chance I won’t start. I don’t know what else to say.”
