Running back Jonathan Stewart will miss at least the first six weeks of the regular season after the Carolina Panthers placed him on the physically unable to perform list.

Stewart underwent offseason ankle surgery and has not played during the preseason.

DeAngelo Williams will be the Panthers’ starting running back, with Mike Tolbert and rookie Kenjon Barner also in the backfield mix.
