San Diego Padres left-handed pitcher Clayton Richard will have season-ending shoulder surgery next week.

MLB.com reported Friday that Richard will have part of his left clavicle shaved down to prevent future problems with the joint on top of the shoulder. He has been on the disabled list since June 21.

Fortunately for Richard, his shoulder does not have structural damage.

Richard is 2-5 with a 7.01 ERA in 53 innings this year.
