Green Bay Packers’ safety Charles Woodson will miss 4-6 weeks with a fractured collarbone.
Fox Sports insider Jay Glazer reported the injury, which could cause shuffling in the inexperienced secondary of the Packers.
Rookie Casey Hayward, who leads the NFL with four interceptions all in the last three games, has helped stabliize the defensive backfield.
Sam Shields (shin/ankle) didn’t play in Sunday’s game at St. Louis, pushing Hayward into a starting role. Davon House (shoulder) performed well in preseason and has practiced with a harness. He could be in line for more reps this week and crack the rotation Sunday against Jacksonville.
Woodson moved from cornerback to strong safety this season. Defensive coorrdinator Dom Capers has said there’s no way to put a label on the value Woodson brings to the defense. He’s more often asked to play the quarterback than he is play a specific position, offering Capers flexibility to use him as a hybrid linebacker/cornerback.
