Oklahoma State quarterback J.W. Walsh, who started the past three games for the Cowboys, will be sidelined for the rest of the season with an undisclosed injury, coach Mike Gundy said Sunday in his weekly teleconference.
Walsh, a redshirt freshman, had been the starter since true freshman Wes Lunt injured his knee in a Sept. 15 game against Louisiana Tech.
Gundy said Lunt practiced last week, and Gundy is “guessing” Lunt will be ready to start Saturday against TCU. Lunt has been available to play since Oklahoma State’s game at Kansas on Oct. 13, Gundy said, according to the Daily Oklahoman.
Gundy did not specify Walsh’s injury, but said it occurred in the first quarter of Saturday’s victory over Iowa State.
Walsh stayed in the game and threw for 415 yards, the ninth-best passing performance in school history. He also rushed for 46 yards and a touchdown.
The Cowboys lead the nation in total offense.
