The Oakland Raiders retained running back Darren McFadden and reached an agreement with free-agent offensive lineman Rodger Saffold on a five-year contract Tuesday.
McFadden signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the team, NFL.com reported. He announced on Twitter that he was remaining with the Raiders.
“Glad to be back in black,” McFadden said.
Saffold agreed to a $42.5 million contract with $21 million guaranteed, ESPN reported. He showed versatility the past four seasons with the St. Louis Rams, playing guard and tackle. But he had durability issues, missing 17 games during that span with various injuries.
The deals came after Rashad Jennings, the Raiders’ leading rusher last season with 733 yards, left via free agency and signed with the New York Giants.
In addition to losing Jennings, offensive lineman Jared Veldheer and defensive end Lamarr Houston signed elsewhere as free agents.
The 26-year-old McFadden ran for 379 yards during an injury-plagued 2013 season, averaging 3.3 yards per carry.
McFadden was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2008 draft and rushed for 1,157 yards in 2010, but injuries have forced him to miss 29 games during his six-year career. He has never been able to play in more than 13 games in a season.
