Oakland’s Parker takes on Verlander in Game 5

Oakland’s ability to work late-innings miracles means that the team will play in a winner-take-all Game 5 on Thursday.

The A’s will have Jarrod Parker, the Game 1 starter, back on the mound against Detroit, taking on Tigers star Justin Verlander.

Parker said he won’t change much despite seeing the Tigers just last Saturday.

“You go in with your game plan and your strengths and try not to vary too much off of that,” Parker said.

The one thing he would change: a blown play in the field when he tried to scoop up a tapper by Quintin Berry and couldn’t come up with it. Parker called that a play he normally makes every time.

Are the Tigers’ backs against the wall after dropping two in Oakland to even the series 2-2? The A’s beat Detroit 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth on Wednesday.

“There’s pressure,” A’s right fielder Josh Reddick said of the Tigers’ position. “But they have their best pitcher on the mound. As do we.”
