The Dallas Mavericks believe Dirk Nowitzki’s recovery time from his arthroscopic knee surgery might be closer to three weeks, rather than the six weeks originally announced, ESPNDallas.com reported Monday.

After Nowitzki had the operation on his right knee on Friday, the Mavs said Nowitzki would resume on-court activity in about six weeks.

Three to six weeks is the typical recovery time for such a procedure, and sources told ESPNDallas.com that the Mavs’ medical staff was encouraged by how well the surgery went. The hope now is that Nowitzki might miss just two weeks of the regular season.
