Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah has a sprained MCL but could be back for Nebraska’s game against Wisconsin next week, coach Bo Pelini said.
“We’re very optimistic,” Pelini told the Omaha World-Herald. “I’m optimistic. I can’t say for sure.”
Abdullah was injured in the first quarter of Nebraska’s 35-14 win vs. Purdue on Saturday.
The Huskers have a bye this week, giving Abdullah extra time to recover.
Nebraska (8-1, 4-1 Big Ten) and Wisconsin (6-2, 3-1) meet Nov. 15 in a game that will help decide which team will represent the West Division in the Big Ten championship game. Nebraska finishes with Minnesota and Iowa, who are also 3-1 in the division.
Abdullah was leading the nation in rushing before the Purdue game. After gaining just one yard on six carries before being hurt Saturday, he now ranks fifth with 1,250 rushing yards. His 19 total touchdowns are tied for second in the country.
