LOS ANGELES — The unthinkable occurred Sunday to the defending champion Golden State Warriors. They lost in stunning fashion to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Jordan Clarkson scored 25 points and the Lakers prevailed 112-95 before a roaring crowd at Staples Center. The loss ended the Warriors’ seven-game winning streak and dropped their record to 55-6.
Based on the winning percentage difference of .727 between the teams before Sunday’s game, the result is the biggest upset in NBA history, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
D’Angelo Russell scored 21 points, dished out five assists and recorded a career-high four steals for the Lakers. Warriors star Stephen Curry finished with 18 points on 6-of-20 shooting and 1-of-10 from 3-point range, while backcourt mate Klay Thompson scored 15 points but missed all eight of his 3-point attempts and shot 7-for-20 overall.
Nuggets 116, Mavericks 114 (OT)
DENVER — D.J. Augustin hit two free throws with nine-tenths of a second left in overtime to give Denver the win.
Augustin scored eight of his 12 points in the extra period. Kenneth Faried had 25 points and a season-high 20 rebounds, and Will Barton scored 20 for the Nuggets, who rallied from four down in the last 10 seconds of regulation to force overtime and get the win.
Dirk Nowitzki scored 30 points and Deron Williams had 17 for the Mavericks, who lost their second consecutive game.
Suns 109, Grizzlies
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Devin Booker scored 27 points and Alex Len added 19 points and 16 rebounds to lead Phoenix to just its third victory in the past 18 games.
Memphis was led by Mike Conley, who finished with 22 points, and reserve JaMychal Green scored 17 before fouling out with 3:57 to go. Matt Barnes also scored 17 for the Grizzlies, who had their three-game win streak snapped.
Thunder 104, Bucks 96
MILWAUKEE — Oklahoma City, which had lost six of its first eight games coming out of the All-Star break, nearly let another game get away, but survived to win. The Thunder’s 20-point lead was reduced to two points early in the fourth quarter before they regained control.
Russell Westbrook notched his 10th triple-double of the season with 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Kevin Durant finished with 32 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists.
Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with his third triple-double of the season, collecting 26 points with 12 rebounds and 10 assists.
Heat 103, 76ers 98
MIAMI — Guard Goran Dragic had 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists as Miami rallied to escape an upset.
Dwyane Wade finished with 23 points, and Hassan Whiteside added 14 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocks to help the Heat win their fifth game in a row.
Philadelphia was led by point guard Ish Smith, who had 21 points and five assists.
Pistons 123, Trail Blazers 103
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Reggie Jackson poured in 30 points and added nine assists to lift Detroit past Portland.
Jackson, who collected his seventh 30-point outing this season, was among six double-figures scorers for the Pistons. Marcus Morris had 19 points, All Andre Drummond supplied 14 points and 18 rebounds, and Tobias Harris contributed 16 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Portland’s Damian Lillard, who scored 50 points at Toronto on Friday, had a team-high 26 points but shot 8-for-22 from the field with six turnovers. Backcourt partner C.J. McCollum added 22 points and five assists for the Trail Blazers, who have lost three straight.
