Washington Nationals infielder Danny Espinosa has a hamstring injury that will keep him from playing for the remainder of the season.

Manager Matt Williams said Thursday that Espinosa, 28, has a slight tear that usually needs about four weeks of recovery time and the team didn’t want to put him in danger of further injury.

The Nationals had 11 games remaining in the regular season entering Thursday’s makeup date with the Baltimore Orioles. They trailed the first-place New York Mets by 6 1/2 games in the National League East.

In 118 games this season, Espinosa batted .240 with 13 home runs, 37 RBIs and 59 runs.
