Will Muschamp’s contract at Auburn makes him the highest paid defensive coordinator in college football.

The university released details of Muschamp’s contract Wednesday and he will make at least $5.1 million over three years from Auburn while collecting $6.3 million that Florida still owes him as its former head coach.

Muschamp, who was hired by the Tigers in December after his dismissal by the Gators, will make $1.6 million in 2015 from Auburn. The new contract also calls for Muschamp to receive $100,000 raises each of the next two years and additional bonuses.

If the school fired Muschamp without cause before Dec. 31, 2017, he would be entitled to the balance of his contract. But if he left Auburn before the end of this season, he would be required to pay the school $1 million.

Among the other highest paid assistants in college football are John Chavis, who left LSU after last season to become defensive coordinator at Texas A&M, at $1.5 million in 2015 and Louisville defensive coordinator Todd Grantham at $1.4 million.
