Although Texas A&M officials confirmed that freshman quarterback Kyler Murray is considering transferring, Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin said Wednesday that he expects Murray to be Texas A&M’s starting quarterback in the Dec. 30 Music City Bowl against Louisville.
Earlier this month, Kyle Allen, who shared the starting quarterback duties with Murray during the season, had decided to transfer from Texas A&M.
Now it appears the Aggies may lose both quarterbacks.
In eight games this season, Murray completed 59.5 percent of his passes for 686 yards with five touchdowns and seven interceptions. He rushed 53 times for 335 yards and one score.
Murray and his family reportedly met with Sumlin for a second straight day on Wednesday to discuss his situation.
The transfer is not yet official as the football officials apparently are trying to change Murray’s mind.
It is unclear whether Murray would transfer immediately or wait until after the bowl game to depart.
If Murray does decide to depart, it would leave the Aggies with five quarterbacks on their roster. But only one of those five has attempted a pass at the FBS level. That would be Jake Hubenak, a 2015 junior-college signee who completed 12 of his 27 passes during the regular season.
