PHOENIX — Although it was a long time coming, catcher Miguel Montero’s first career walk-off hit could not have come at a better moment for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Montero’s leadoff home run in the bottom of the 10th inning put the finishing touch on the Diamondbacks’ comeback from a four-run deficit for a 5-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday at Chase Field.

Arizona (9-22) snapped a four-game losing streak.

“It feels good to get it out of the way,” said Montero, who hit a 1-2 fastball from Tommy Kahnle (2-1) deep into the right field seats.

“It only took 13 years,” he added with a smile. “The first couple of swings, it was typical, swinging pretty hard, trying to launch one. It’s a funny game. The last one, I was just trying to protect with two strikes.”

Third baseman Martin Prado’s two-out, two-strike single with the bases loaded in the ninth tied the game off left-hander Rex Brothers, who was used to close when Colorado closer LaTroy Hawkins got a day off after saving the first two games of the series.

Prado had three hits as the Diamondbacks won for the second time in their past 14 games at Chase Field.

“In games like that, situations like that, I feel like everybody in this locker room needs me,” Prado said. “It is a great feeling to win this game the way we did because we know we are capable to do a lot of good stuff in baseball.”

Arizona right-hander Addison Reed (2-1) escaped a jam in the top of the 10th. With a runner at third and one out, he struck out center fielder Drew Stubbs and then retired left fielder Carlos Gonzalez on a lineout.

Stubbs beat Reed with an opposite-field homer in the ninth inning Tuesday in the Rockies’ 5-4 victory.

“We’ve been struggling to get wins, and to get it the way that we got it tonight is huge,” Reed said. “Hopefully it kind of starts something.”

The Rockies (16-13) saw their three-game winning streak end.

Gonzalez hit a two-run home run three batters into the game, and right-hander Jordan Lyles also homered as Colorado took a 4-0 lead off Diamondbacks starter Josh Collmenter after three innings.

Lyles, who gave up one run on three hits in six innings, has not given up more than three runs in any of his last five starts.

Arizona got one run back in the sixth, then pulled within 4-2 on first baseman Paul Goldschmidt’s eighth-inning solo homer.

Diamondbacks left fielder Cody Ross singled with one out in the ninth inning, and pinch hitter Chris Owings doubled down the right field line with two outs. Brothers hit right fielder Gerardo Parra on a 3-1 pitch to load the bases, bringing up Prado.

“Prado had two strikes and ended up getting a big hit for them,” Colorado manager Walt Weiss said. “(Brothers) didn’t have his great command tonight. The Diamondbacks battled back.

Brothers said, “Command would be the right word. One pitch away from that game being in the books. No doubt about it. I didn’t execute. Bottom line. I didn’t execute a pitch.”

Goldschmidt had two of Arizona’s eight hits, including his fourth homer of the season.

Colorado third baseman Nolan Arenado extended his hitting streak to a major-league-long 20 games with a sixth-inning single.

With Stubbs on board after a one-out single in the first inning, Gonzalez hit his fifth homer of the season to give Colorado a 2-0 lead.

Lyles hit his second career homer leading off the third inning, and right fielder Charlie Blackmon scored the second run of the inning when he doubled, moved to third on a sacrifice and came in on a wild pitch.

The Rockies had a run taken away in the third inning. Catcher Jordan Pacheco appeared to score on a one-out fly ball to right field, but he was called on an appeal at third base for leaving early.
