PITTSBURGH — Starling Marte hit a two-run, walk-off homer in the 10th inning Sunday to give the Pittsburgh Pirates a 6-5 win over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday and a weekend series sweep at PNC Park.
Freddie Freeman went 4-for-5 with two solo homers and Dansby Swanson added a solo homer for Atlanta, which lost its fourth in a row.
Freeman hit a one-out, first-pitch homer to left in the fifth to give Atlanta a 3-2 lead. He hit his second homer off Antonio Bastardo with one out in the seventh for a 4-2 lead.
Phillies 4, Nationals 3
PHILADELPHIA — After watching a three-run lead disappear on one swing in the ninth inning, Philadelphia recovered to beat Washington on a walk-off single by Cesar Hernandez.
The Phillies hadn’t won a series against the Nationals at Citizens Bank Park since taking two of three in April 2015. It took a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth by Hernandez, scoring Daniel Nava — who walked to lead off the inning and advanced on a Freddy Galvis single — to reverse that trend.
Ryan Zimmerman’s three-run homer off Jeanmar Gomez with two outs in the ninth kept the Nationals alive in a game the Phillies controlled to that point.
Cubs 7, Brewers 4
MILWAUKEE — Jake Arrieta struck out 10 and Kris Bryant had his second three-hit day in a row as Chicago clinched a second consecutive series victory by beating Milwaukee at Miller Park.
Bryant reached in all four of his plate appearances, singling three times and drawing a walk in the seventh. After starting the season 0-for-13, he went 7-for-12 in the three games at Milwaukee.
In all, the Cubs had 11 hits, including home runs from Kyle Schwarber and Ben Zobrist. Ryan Braun put Milwaukee on the board in the third, ripping an three-run homer off Arrieta, who worked six innings and gave up three hits and two walks.
Yankees 7, Orioles 3
BALTIMORE — New York scored four runs off Darren O’Day in the ninth inning and avoided a three-game sweep.
New York also snapped Baltimore’s four-game winning streak to start the season.
Aaron Judge hit a solo homer off Mychal Givens that tied the score 3-3 in the eighth. O’Day walked the opening two batters to start the ninth before Starlin Castro lined a single for a 4-3 lead. O’Day issued another walk to load the bases and Judge provided a two-run cushion with a ground out. Austin Romine followed with a sacrifice fly and a throwing error by Jonathan Schoop allowed the fourth run to score.
Reds 8, Cardinals 0
ST. LOUIS — Scott Feldman authored a nice rebound from a shaky Opening Day start with six scoreless innings and Adam Duvall banged out three hits to lead Cincinnati over St. Louis at Busch Stadium.
Feldman, who couldn’t make it out of the fifth inning in absorbing a 4-3 loss to Philadelphia on Monday, gave up four hits and a walk while fanning six.
Duvall started Cincinnati’s 11-hit attack with a leadoff homer in the second off Carlos Martinez, then added two singles and a walk. His third hit plated Jose Peraza to start a four-run sixth that decided the game. The Reds got plenty of help later in the outburst from the Cardinals, which mixed in three errors before getting an out in the inning.
Red Sox 7, Tigers 5
DETROIT — Sandy Leon lined a tie-breaking, two-run single in the middle of a four-run, eighth-inning rally to lift Boston over Detroit and snap a two-game losing streak.
Nick Castellanos had given Detroit a brief 4-3 lead when he led off the seventh with his second home run of the season, but the Tigers’ erratic bullpen couldn’t hold the lead. Bruce Rondon gave up a walk and a single to begin the eighth, with both runners advancing on left fielder Justin Upton’s throwing error. Mitch Moreland was walked intentionally and reliever Kyle Ryan walked in the tying run.
Leon lined a two-run single to center to make it 6-4 and the seventh Boston run scored on a double play grounder.
Twins 4, White Sox 1
CHICAGO — Ervin Santana gave up two hits in six innings and Minnesota defeated Chicago.
Jorge Polanco finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run as Minnesota continued a hot start and won the rubber game of the series. Miguel Sano added a two-run homer as part of a two-hit day.
Brandon Kintzler got the final four outs for his third save. Santana walked two and struck out four while lowering his season ERA to 0.69.
Rays 7, Blue Jays 2
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Tampa Bay is off to its best start ever at 5-2, closing out a four-game series with a win over struggling Toronto at Tropicana Field.
The Rays got a strong start from Jake Odorizzi, who gave up two hits in the first inning, then didn’t allow another hit in six innings. Tampa Bay’s bats did the rest with three home runs against the Blue Jays.
Toronto jumped ahead 2-0 in the first inning, getting a solo home run from Josh Donaldson, then an RBI groundout from Troy Tulowitzki. Corey Dickerson hit his second home run of the season for the Rays, Steven Souza belted a three-run homer to continue his strong start and Jesus Sucre’s solo homer made it 5-2.
