
Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper was not in the starting lineup Sunday after taking a 95-mph fastball off his left knee the day before.
Harper exited Saturday’s 7-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in the ninth inning after being hit by a Michael Blazek pitch.
“It hurts,” Harper said after the game. “Really bad. Squared me up pretty well — 95 to the knee don’t feel very good. We’ll see what happens (Sunday) and see if it feels good.”
Harper, who was 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs and reached base five times, was able to walk off under his own power after getting hit by the pitch.
Harper is among the league leaders this season, batting .343 with 21 home runs and 51 RBIs in 61 games.
—The Cleveland Indians placed designated hitter/outfielder Nick Swisher on the 15-day disabled list with knee inflammation.
Swisher underwent bilateral knee surgery last August and began his season on May 3. In 30 games in 2015, he has batted .198 with four doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs in 30 games.
The club also called up infielder Francisco Lindor from Triple-A Columbus.
—To make room for the returns of right-hander Dillon Gee (bereavement leave) and infielder Ruben Tejada (paternity leave), the New York Mets optioned infielder Danny Muno and catcher Anthony Recker to Triple-A Las Vegas.
—Miami Marlins third baseman Martin Prado left Sunday’s game in the first inning when he tumbled while running to first. Prado has a sprained right shoulder and is day to day.
—The Toronto Blue Jays placed right-hander Aaron Sanchez (upper back muscle) on the disabled list retroactive to June 6, and recalled right-hander Scott Copeland.
—Baltimore Orioles left-hander Brian Matusz was reinstated after serving an eight-game suspension for using a foreign substance on his arm.
The Orioles recalled right-hander Tyler Wilson from Triple-A Norfolk and optioned left-hander T.J. McFarland to their top farm club.
—New York Yankees right-hander Ivan Nova (right ulnar collateral reconstruction) made his second rehab start Saturday, allowing one earned run over six innings for Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes-Barre.
—Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve did some light outfield running Sunday morning but remains sidelined by right hamstring discomfort.
Altuve departed the series opener on Friday night following his second at-bat in the first inning and, while he continues to make progress, his status remains day-to-day.
—The Minnesota Twins put outfielder Aaron Hicks on the 15-day disabled list to make room for outfielder Byron Buxton, who made his major league debut Sunday.
Hicks hurt his right elbow while taking swings in the batting cages Saturday.
—Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre had four stitches removed from his left thumb but is still unable to grip a bat. He went on the DL June 1 with a sprained left thumb.
