Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz told Boston’s CBS television affiliate Sunday night that he will “move on” if he is not offered a multiyear deal from the team.
Ortiz, 38, earned World Series MVP honors after the Red Sox won their third title in 10 years.
Ortiz was nonspecific when asked how long he plans to play.
“It can be two years, it can be three years, it can be 10 years. You never know,” he said.
Ortiz has one year left on the two-year extension he signed a year ago. He has played with the Red Sox for 11 years. He indicated that he would like to retire with them.
“Hey, I would like to,” he said. “I’m having fun. It’s been a hell of a ride as long as I’ve been here. But as I always keep on telling people, this is a business. Sometimes you’ve got to do what’s best for you and your family.”

His apology was reported on Monday by El Nacional newspaper, according to Associated Press.
The fight occurred in the third game of the series. After Zambranos’ Navegantes del Magallanes teammate Ezequiel Carrera was hit by a pitch, Zambrano punched Caribes de Anzoategui pitcher Mayckol Guiape.
Zambrano called it a “very embarrassing incident,” according to the Associated Press account of the El Nacional report.
—Infielder Chris Nelson, who played for three major-league teams in 2013, agreed to a minor-league contract with the Cincinnati Reds.
Nelson hit .301 111 games for the Colorado Rockies in 2012, but he slipped to .227 in 2013 while playing for the Rockies, New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels.
—Utility man Paul Janish agreed to a minor-league deal with the Colorado Rockies, CBSSports.com reported.
Janish, 31, hit .171 in 52 games for the Atlanta Braves in 2013.
