The new Mr. October, New York Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy, did it again Wednesday.
Murphy homered in a major-league-record sixth consecutive postseason game, going deep against the Chicago Cubs in the eighth inning of Game 4 of the National League Championship Series at Wrigley Field.
The previous mark was set by outfielder Carlos Beltran, who homered in five playoff games in a row for the Houston Astros in 2004.
Murphy was 4-for-5 through eight innings Wednesday, giving him a .529 average (9-for-17) in the NLCS.
In nine games overall this postseason, Murphy was hitting .421 (16-for-38) with seven homers and 11 RBIs.
The power display was a shock considering Murphy’s season high for home runs is 14, set this year. During his seven-year major league career, Murphy is averaging one homer every 58.4 at-bats. This postseason, he is going deep every 5.4 at-bats.
